Humanoid is packed with much of the same emotion that has connected with multitudes of young fans. And in this age of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, the record is full of opportunities for audience participation.

The first single, "Automatic" is a metallic anthem with layered, buzzing guitars, stomping percussion, and a falsetto chorus made to be belted out by a stadium full of people. "World Behind My Wall" redefines the power ballad with depth, introspection, musical confidence and an irresistible sing-along chorus.

While recording this time around, though, the band was in its most experimental phase to date. They tracked songs in Hamburg, Miami, and L.A. "Bill drove us all crazy, constantly coming in with things, even though the old songs weren’t finished yet," says Tom, who's fond of frequently ribbing his brother. "Apart from that, we just didn’t limit ourselves, and we used new instruments."

There are more electronic sounds on Humanoid. The first single "Automatic" explores the relationships between every day emotions and every day conveniences.

"How many things happen automatically every day?" Bill asks. "The door opens and closes automatically, shifting gears in a car; a camera lens -- all of those are always positive things, but when the mechanical quality of the automatic meets human things like love, then suddenly it becomes extremely negative. Love has to be spontaneous and genuine, never automatic and cold.” That's the theme that moves people.

Along with the new sounds, new subjects, new live show, and even Bill's new style, longtime fans will still find the constant connection to Tokio Hotel's raw honesty and emotion.

"We love our fans because they are the loudest of all and do such crazy things," Bill says. "They always support us, no matter what has happened, and a lot has happened."

Rockers Tokio Hotel happy to pump up the volume

The last time German rockers Tokio Hotel were in town, they played an acoustic showcase - a far cry from Humanoid City, the ballsy show they've been touring recently. This time round, when Tokio Hotel return to our shores for Singfest, they promise to rock out - albeit on a smaller scale than Humanoid City.

"We will have a full electric show, but we won't be able to bring the whole set for Humanoid City," said Tokio Hotel singer Bill Kaulitz over the phone. "But it's going to be a great show anyway."

What do you expect this time?

We expect great weather. And great audiences. Well, you know, we'd rather see the fans one-to-one than just read about them or hear about them on the Internet. This time we can see them face-to-face and see their reactions and emotions. That's always a great thing. So we're excited.

Did you see much of Singapore and try the local food last time?

The schedule was really, really tough the last time, so we didn't see the whole city and all our fans, but it was fantastic. We just ate pasta, pizza and things like that. Maybe we'll get to try some this time.

Brothers in a band aren't always a good idea. Look at Oasis. How well do you get along with Tom?

I think because we're identical twins, it's a little different. There's a connection there, it's something special. We're like one person - can't live without each other. I mean, we have fights sometimes, but five minutes later, we'll forget about it. Tommy and me, we've done everything together our whole lives. It's an enormous thing for us to be in the same band and doing all this together.

You guys were teens when you started. Any advice for young bands?

It's hard in the beginning, especially if you are very young, with people talking sh** about you. But when you're doing good music at 15 ... that's a good thing. To be successful, though, it's a lot of luck - you have to be at the right place at the right time. And a lot of hard work. We made the decision and we just wanted to go for it and do music our whole lives. We didn't care what happened. It's important to keep that goal in mind to go professional.

So you didn't think to do anything else after school?

Tom and me, we started to make music when we were seven. After school, we went directly into the rehearsal room. There was never a Plan B. If we weren't picked up by the label, I think we could have been homeless musicians, maybe. We would play anywhere - in front of five or in front of thousands. But it's better to play in front of thousands! We are really lucky to have this life. I feel really blessed.

At St. Regis dwells four young devils: twin brothers, Bill Kaulitz and Tom Kaulitz, Gustav Schafer and Georg Listing. Tonight, they're not resting in Tokyo but at a palatial hotel at the remote part of Orchard Road. Once known as the Devilish back home in Germany, the foursome dropped their naughty moniker and won the hearts of teen pop rock fans worldwide with a new entity, Tokio Hotel.

THE VAMPIRE UNLEASHED

All dressed in black, Bill sits poised on a Victorian sofa in a bar; his coiffure rises over the heads of his fellow band members. He looks elongated like a samurai sword - sharp and thin, all the more so with his long legs. His glance spells caution as if to hint to us not to ask banal questions. "For movies, it's cooler to be totally different, to try something else," he explains.

FASHION COLLECTION FROM BILL?

But god knows how long fans will have to wait to see him on the big screen. At the moment, the band only wants to focus on music. "I will always do music," Bill says. Tom, the guitarist, seconds his brother's view; "I think we're talented at doing music and nothing else." Seated at their opposite ends, Gustav, 21, the cherubic drummer and Georg, 22, the long-haired bassist, nod in agreement. However, Bill does not dismiss that if he were to dabble in something new, fashion is likely to be on his list. "The fashion thing will be cool," he says. "I like Dan and Dean from Dsquared2... REBELS WITH A CAUSE

Tokio Hotel has attitude; depending on how you look at it, you can either admire or admonish them. At age 15, they already knew what they wanted musically for their band, Devilish. The adults at their previous record label, Sony BMG Germany, liked to tell them what to do and what was best for them but they refused to be chaperoned. Unlike other acts, they approached a record label with a completed album; they didn't want any stylists or songwriters. "We produced the record and did everything on our own then we signed the deal," Tom says. This displeased their ex-boss. "They did not believe in us and did not think that we have the potential to be successful," Bill recalls. "They dropped us." But their steadfast belief in their talents paid off when Universal Music Germany signed them on in 2005.

'HOTEL' EXPANSION

Their debut German album, Schrei (featuring Bill's prepubescent voice), received the IFPI Platinum Europe Award a year after its release in 2006. The award honours the success of European artistes who have achieved sales of one million copies of their album in Europe. In 2007, their second German album, Zimmer 483, was certified platinum by IFPI Austria. In the same year, their first English album, Scream, which won them the Best New Artist at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. In 2009, they released their latest album, Humanoid, concurrently in both English and German. The former stayed on the Billboard Top 200 for 3 weeks. With just two English albums, their fame has percolated throughout the U.S. Recently, they collaborated with Kerli, the Estonian teen pop star on the song "Strange" on Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland soundtrack. They are the first Deutschlanders in German music history to enjoy such worldwide success. "We are really grateful to have the chance as a German band to tour so many countries. After Singapore, they left for Kuala Lumpur the next day. In July, they're planning to visit China and thereafter return to the Lion City again. "We hope we can visit Japan for the first time," Bill says. It certainly looks like a legion of humanoids will soon surface in Asia.

BEFORE THEY WERE FAMOUS

Bill is the most talked about member of Tokio Hotel. Understandably, it is his androgynous image and feminine disposition that sparked speculation about his sexuality. But being looked at differently is not an unfamiliar feeling to Bill. When he was ten, he already didn't look like the kids from his village in Magdeburg, Germany. "People stared t us as if we were aliens. We don't have many friends," he says. Music was their only solace. They were performing at the local club when they met Georg and Gustav - that was in 2001. In the spirit of our March Madness competition, we pit rock bands against each other - fans decide who wins!

Every four years, the international community comes together to decide which nation has the most dominant soccer team (or football team, provided that you live anywhere but the United States). The 2010 FIFA World Cup is upon us, and the first matches start in earnest on Friday.

Coincidentally, that's also the day that will see the launch of the 2010 MTV World Cup of Rock tournament. Just as we did with our very popular Musical March Madness matchup, we've taken a huge sporting event and translated it to the music world. And once again, it's up to you the readers to decide which country rocks hardest and best.

The 16 countries that qualified for the World Cup of Rock are grouped into four groups of four teams each. Play will begin on Friday with a matchup between the first two teams, and every day will see a different matchup. Once each team has played the others in its group, the two top seeds from each group will qualify for the bracketed tournament. From there, it's single elimination until one nation is left standing.

Each country will be represented by a contingent of particular artists, but you should consider any group from that particular country eligible for play. The goal of the tournament is to decide just which country rocks hardest and best.

There will be one match every day, with the winners decided by your votes on the MTV Newsroom Blog. Tiebreakers will be decided by the most votes cast for each individual country, so vote for your favorite early and often.

Let's meet the teams!

Group A

France: The French won the World Cup in 1998 and they have another strong chance to score big this year. In order to advance in the World Cup of Rock, they'll have to rely on the likes of Phoenix, Daft Punk, Air and a bevy of better-than-you-think-they-are French hip-hop MCs.

Mexico: The Mexican team has everything: veteran leadership in Carlos Santana, youthful energy from Kinky and an air of big-game cool from Plastilina Mosh.

Nigeria: Powered by Afrobeat (first birthed by the late Fela Kuti and heard everywhere from Talking Heads to Kanye West), these plucky underdogs are capable of anything.

South Africa: The host nation doesn't have the strongest soccer team but it does have a solid batch of musical representatives, including arena hippie Dave Matthews, prog icon Manfred Mann and tongue-twisting rapper Jean Grae.

South Korea: Though it doesn't have a great shot at the Cup, South Korea has a secret weapon in the World Cup of Rock: His name is Rain (a.k.a. MTV Movie Awards B, and he is a one man dynamo.

Brazil: The Brazilian soccer team has won more World Cups than any other nation, and they've done it with varied attacks and dynamic stars. Schluss, Ende, aus! Mit der deutschen Band Tokio Hotel geht es den Bach runter. Und das Schlimmste: Niemand interessiert sich dafür. Was 2005 mit dem Album "Schrei" so sensationell begann, scheint jetzt ein wahrer Alptraum für die Band zu werden. Wir haben die schlimmsten Facts gesammelt und prophezeien das baldige Ende von Tokio Hotel.

FLOP. Am meisten Kohle bekommen Musiker durch die Verkäufe von Konzertkarten. Und genau da beginnt der größte Absturz. Die Konzerthallen der heurigen Welttournee blieben leer, was die Veranstalter in den Ruin trieb: "Wir werden Tokio Hotel nie wieder buchen!", so ein wütender Promoter. Verständlich, denn bei ihrer Tour im Jahr 2007 fanden sich noch über 11.000 Fans in der Wiener Stadthalle ein, heuer kamen nicht mal 4.000 Zuseher. Doch auch die Zahlen der CD-Verkäufe blieben unter den Erwartungen. Weder ihr aktuelles Album "Humanoid", noch die erste Single "Automatisch" landete in den Top 10 der Charts. Selbst in Amerika, wo Tokio Hotel noch extrem beliebt waren, wird das Album zu Schleuderpreisen angeboten. Nach den peinlichen Verkäufen der ersten Single wurden alle anderen Singles nur noch über iTunes verkauft. Die Band selbst will davon nichts wissen. Frontman Bill Kaulitz im Interview: "Unser Management meint, wir sind erfolgreicher denn je und wir sollen uns keine Gedanken machen." Eine Lüge! Doch warum klärt man die Band über die dramatische Situation nicht aufm und wir kam es so weit? Das Management schweigt.

Uninteressant. Die zweite Single "Lass uns laufen" wurde nur über das Internet verkauft. Die Herstellung einer Maxi-CD wurde aus Kostengründen eingespart.

Treu. Nur die französischen Fans blieben ihrer Lieblingsband treu. Doch das reicht Tokio Hotel nicht. Sie wollen es noch heuer in Israel und ganz Asien versuchen.

What began so sensationally with the album "Schrei" in 2005, seems to become a real nightmare for the band. We gathered the worst facts and prognosticate the early end of Tokio Hotel.

FLOP. The most cash musicians get is from the sales of concert tickets. And exactly there begins the big fall of grace: The venues of their world tour this year stayed empty, which ruined the promoters. "We'll never book Tokio Hotel again!", an angry promoter said. I always wanted to make a video for a song that Tokio Hotel never made a video for. To show them how creative their fans are. I made this as an example last summer. If you want to participate just follow these steps:

- the song picked for the first fan made video is 'Love & Death', so make a video

a. at least a minute long
b. any setting
c. there is no age limit nor a limit to a state your in, this is world wide!
d. get creative: act out the lyrics, make up a dance, sing it

I've been talking to a lot of tokio hotel fans that haven't seen or met the guys. I want to give them a chance to get their voice heard to them. We are all creative in different ways and to show Tokio Hotel that we are, i want to gather up poems, pictures, drawings, letters & other things from fans and put it all in ONE huge book and giving it to the boys hopefully straight into their hands at the next NYC event. It will be hard, trust me i know, but i will try my best to do so. It will be printed and put into a fan book.
